*CPE SESSION 14 -
Wednesday, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Introduction to XML
Description/Objectives:
XML and its associated technologies and taxonomies are
revolutionizing the networked computerized world. XML
is a new markup language from the World Wide Web Consortium
(W3C) that is designed to complement HTML. XML describes
data in terms that are both human- and computer-readable.
The language supports the precise representation of
objects (e.g., "Sales Invoice") in a way that
HTML cannot do. XML is providing the "glue"
that is binding together the exchange of information
on the Internet. In the accounting arena, XML is the
facilitating technology for XBRL, the eXtensible Business
Reporting Language, which was initiated by the AICPA.
The
objectives of this workshop are to:
1. Explore the rationale for and background to XML.
2. Provide an introduction to XML and present the members
of the XML technology family.
3. Explore the core XML technologies.
4. Discuss the current state of the XML market place
and standards process.
The objectives will be achieved by a combination of
presentation and hands-on exercises.
Format/Structure:
The workshop will focus on understanding the basics
of XML (eXtensible Markup Language). This workshop will
focus on understanding XML by discussion, examples,
