CPE SESSION 21 -
Wednesday, 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM
The Changing CPA
Exam
Description/Objectives:
In 2003 the CPA exam will be changing dramatically:
it will be computerized, and the content has been reevaluated
and modified. This session will provide an overview
of the exam changes, including live demonstrations of
the new exam to focus the discussion on the types of
questions that were previously not on the exam. Dick
DeVore of the AICPA will provide an overview of the
changes underway including information about how students
will take the exam, and what the exam will entail. Additionally,
faculty members who have been involved with developing
the new exam will demonstrate several mini-cases to
show participants how the question domain is changing,
and how the technological implementation is enabling
different skill sets to be tested. These demonstrations
will cover the four new sections of the exam: Auditing
and Attestation; Financial Accounting and Reporting;
Regulation; and Business Environment and Concepts.
Format/Structure:
This session will use a lecture/discussion format to
discuss the new exam, along with live demonstrations
of the exam questions.
Intended
Audience:
This session is designed for faculty who advise and
prepare students for the CPA exam. Our objective is
to provide enough insight into the exam to enable participants
to better understand the changes underway so they can
disseminate insights at their universities. Additionally,
given the exam content is changing, many universities
may use this opportunity to evaluate their curricula,
and this session would help with this process.
Presenters:
Julie Smith David, Arizona State University
