AICPA Professor/Practitioner Case
Partnering and Development Assistance
This session has been
CANCELLED.
Description/Objectives:
Recent attacks on the role and the integrity of the accounting profession have
highlighted the important value of the AICPA Professor/Practitioner Case
Development Program. This program partners accounting educators and
practitioners for the development of case materials based on actual situations.
The cases not only increase the real-world learning experiences for students in
Financial and Managerial Accounting, Auditing, Tax or Information Systems
courses, but also provide accounting educators with an important view into
current practice. This workshop will train the participants in short case
development skills, and will have each participant develop a profile of their
interests. Short, integrative cases that address fraud, assurance services, the
CPA Vision, global marketplace issues, and the AICPA Core Competencies are
preferred. After the workshop, the AICPA will solicit practitioner partners for
every participant in the workshop from their membership. Cases developed as a
result of this workshop will be submitted to the Task Force, and up to ten
"top" cases will be copyrighted, published, and distributed freely to
academic institutions and interested firms by the AICPA. Select cases will be
invited for presentation at either the AAA or FSA Annual Meetings, or the
Colloquium on Change in Accounting Education.
Format/Structure:
The workshop will have three segments. The first segment will explain the basic
steps of professor/practitioner case development collaboration. A variety of
strategies will be offered, ranging from practice inductive to learning goal
deductive. The second segment will involve the participants developing their
"partnership profiles" for the AICPA to utilize to help locate
interested practitioners. The final segment explains the process of the AICPA
Professor/Practitioner Task Force, the case revision process, the resulting
publications, and invitations to present at national conferences.
Intended Audience:
AAA members interested in contributing to active, real-world learning are
invited to participate. Cases that emphasize the AICPA Core Competencies for
Entry into the Accounting Profession and the CPA vision are preferred. The
preference in the year 2002 is for short, introductory or intermediate cases
that can be effectively discussed in less than three hours of classroom
time.
