Effective Learning Strategies Forum - Poster Sessions
Tuesday, August 5, 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM

12. Service Learning in Accounting Programs
Presenter:
Margarita Maria Lenk, Colorado State University

Description: Service learning is the idea that students can better learn some of their coursework's academic goals through experiential processes involving a government or nonprofit or small business in their local community. There are many such opportunities for accounting students just waiting for the creative partnering process to take place. Potential partners include: campus internal auditing offices, local city, county governments, local nonprofits, K-12 school district accounting needs, local taxpayer assistance (VITA), etc. The purpose of this poster session is to help faculty consider these possibilities for their courses, and to help faculty learn how to properly facilitate the building of such partnering relationships.
