21. Blending
Technology into Accounting
Presenter: Carol Yacht, author; software consultant
Description:
Internet-delivered accounting software will be compared to CD-installed
accounting software. This session will include advantages and disadvantages;
course possibilities; comparison of software features; and web resources.
Internet-delivered software, or Application Service Providers (ASPs), offer the
latest, most up-to-date software that can be accessed anytime and anywhere.
QuickBooks Online Edition, Oracle Small Business Suite, and ePeachtree are
examples of ASP-hosted systems. After a free-trial period, users pay a monthly
fee to the ASPs for feature-rich systems that are hosted on remote servers. In
this session, four topics are explored:
1. What is an
Application Service Provider?
2. How can I use an ASP in my
course; for example, Accounting, AIS, and Computer Accounting?
3. How does Internet-delivered
accounting software compare to CD-installed software; for example, QuickBooks
Online Edition compared to QuickBooks Pro; ePeachtree compared to Peachtree
Complete Accounting; Oracle Small Business Suite compared to QuickBooks Pro and
Peachtree Complete Accounting.
