34. So, No Class Each
Week!
Presenter: Albie Brooks, Victoria University
Description: Increasing
amount of content to be covered, seemingly less class time to do it in, a need
to use more technology. This session reports how these forces were
addressed to provide student and staff with a different teaching/learning
experience. Set in a management accounting context, the session details our
experiences with a new subject that is now in its third semester. Its features
include: four formal classes for the semester; a mix of management accounting
and information technology in a problem-solving, case-based environment; use of
Internet technologies in subject delivery and student communication; formal
student reflection; student presentations; use of student-prepared management
reports; and a focus on spreadsheet-design issues.
Attend this session and learn how to:
break through the constraints of traditional subject structures and delivery
modes; provide students with time to work on real-life problem-solving cases;
promote spreadsheet-design skills as well as writing skills; integrate
technology and management accounting with quality outcomes for students.
