Abstract: This research project details a methodology used to collect data from student projects in a quantitative methods in accounting course, and assesses the level of critical thinking skills shown in the projects. We use the WolcottLynch AssociatesÂ’ Steps for Better Thinking taxonomy that organizes the elements of the AICPA Core Competency Framework into sequential skill development levels. The quantitative methods course was designed to address the development of critical thinking skills, and the results show that it was successful. It is well known that assessment of critical thinking skills is a difficult task, and others should benefit from learning of our methodology for collecting and analyzing this assessment data.
