Quality of IS Information, Innovation Budget Pressure, and Departmental Performance

Abstract: Recent studies indicate that firms have seen little or no productivity improvement from IT. One recent proposal has been to pay not so much attention to the contribution of IT per se, but rather to focus more on quality of IS information in terms of its link to performance, and in particular, its link to departmental performance. Evidence suggests that the extent to which quality of IS information enhances departmental performance is dependent on whether there is an emphasis on innovation budget pressure. The results show that when innovation budget pressure is high, quality of IS information enhances performance. In contrast, when the emphasis on innovation budget pressure is low, quality of IS information does not promote performance.
