Abstract: Gainen and Locatelli (1995) report that higher education is in the midst of an assessment movement. Reflective of this movement, AACSB International is proposing new accreditation standards (AACSB 2002) which represent changes in both format and substance. Curriculum issues, covered under the new Assurance of Learning standards, require extensive annual documentation and evidence of learning goals and outcomes. We present a process which facilitates the adoption of learning goals and outcomes by business discipline, the documentation of learning goals and outcomes within individual courses, and the evaluation of both mission and discipline-specific outcomes at the degree program level. Attention to such objectives, which is essential for institutional accreditation, can improve the design and effectiveness of degree programs.
