CPE Session 1: Saturday, August 2, 8:00
AM – 5:00 PM
Using Technology to Distribute Course Content
On and Off Campus
Description/Objectives:
Standing in for Bob Jensen, Amy Dunbar has organized
a session of six professors who use technology
to distribute course material, representing
four on-campus undergraduate classes and two
distance graduate classes. Norman Nemrow, Brigham
Young University, will demonstrate how he uses
his CD six-pack of audio, video, and synchronized
graphics to deliver the top-rated course on
campus, introductory accounting, to approximately
2,700 students each year. His eight live classes
are devoted to big-picture accounting issues.
David Cottrell, Brigham Young University, will
illustrate how he creates multimedia presentations
using Microsoft® Producer in
conjunction with PowerPoint®
for his intermediate accounting classes. Vicky
Arnold, University of Connecticut, will demonstrate
how she fully integrates Excel®
in her (laptop required) cost accounting class,
not only for in-class work, but also her exams.
Axel Schulz, University of Melbourne, will demonstrate
web-based delivery (Marlina) of technical material
in his management accounting course. Steve Sutton,
University of Connecticut, will illustrate WebCT
chat tools and student-moderated threaded discussions,
which he uses to deliver his graduate information
systems course. Amy Dunbar, University of Connecticut,
will demonstrate how she creates content modules
for her graduate tax research distance-learning
students.
