*CPE Session 6: Saturday, August 2, 1:00
– 5:00 PM
Publishing Your Research in Scholarly Accounting
Journals
Description/Objectives:
This workshop identifies meaningful strategies
for getting your research published in scholarly
accounting journals. We will work through the
research process, starting with generating significant
research topics, then going on to developing
the topic, research design, and data collection
issues, writing the paper, deciding where to
submit the paper, and managing the review process.
We will give particular attention to challenges
facing authors resident in universities outside
North America.
The workshop will consist of
two parts. First, Linda Bamber (former editor
of The Accounting Review) will conduct
an interactive seminar on the research process
and strategies for getting your paper published.
Second, Michael Bamber (former consulting editor
of The Accounting Review) will illustrate
the strategies covered in the first part of
the session by using case studies of two papers
(an archival empirical paper and a behavioral
paper) recently published in The Accounting
Review by authors residing outside the
U.S.
Participants will be expected
to spend approximately six hours in advance
preparation for the workshop, including reading
two background papers, the two case-study papers,
and selected editorial correspondence. Participants
will then respond to several questions based
on these materials, which will be provided six
weeks prior to the workshop.
Format/Structure:
This workshop will be conducted as an interactive
seminar and case study.
Intended Audience:
Scholarly researchers, particularly those resident
at universities outside North America, who are
interested in publishing in high-quality scholarly
accounting journals, especially AAA journals.
Presenters:
Linda Bamber, University of Georgia
E. Michael Bamber, University of Georgia
