Description:
Technology plays an important role in enabling Singapore Management University (SMU) to create the best possible learning environment for its students. Our challenge was finding a set of technology that could help us provide a framework for effective collaboration amongst students and faculty, enable interactive exchange, and be intuitive enough to support classroom learning without being a distraction.
In August 2003, Singapore Management University launched a pilot project codenamed "Virtual Canvas," integrating Tablet PCs, Office 2003 Systems, and wireless projectors (and other pen-applets) to bring interaction, both in and outside class, to a new level. This pilot project also includes setting up prototype classrooms for its new City Campus in 2005. There has been numerous local press coverage on the project, including a case study done by Microsoft (used for its Asian launch of Office 2003 Systems), ComputerTimes, and MIS Asia.
Key benefits from Virtual Canvas project:
- Natural computing keeps focus on interaction
- An innovative environment that attracts the best students
- Productivity for students and faculty alike
We would like to share with the participants our experience in bringing this set of new technologies to the classroom.
