2004 Annual Meeting

Poster Session 15:
Assessment and Accounting Education

Presenter:
William B. Joyce, Eastern Illinois University

Description:
Assessment of accounting students' learning has recently generated considerable interest in educational circles. This interest has focused on such issues as the extent to which accounting faculty should incorporate national and state development of "standards" in their teaching and assessment, as well as the degree to which accounting faculty should use traditional tests or alternative assessments such as performance assessments. These are some of the questions explored in this poster session:

  • How can assessment be made an integral part of teaching?
  • What does it take to construct high-quality assessment?
  • What are "traditional" tests like?
  • What is "authentic" assessment?
  • What is "performance" assessment?
  • What is "portfolio" assessment?
  • What are some good strategies for grading and reporting students' performance?
  • How can computers be used in assessment and grading?
