A New and Innovative Teaching Approach to Comprehensive
Personal Financial Planning

Description/Objectives:
The primary intent of the course is to identify and review the critical stages of the comprehensive personal financial planning process including their development, implementation, and ongoing monitoring. Additionally, the course is designed to develop and enhance participants’ knowledge about the fee-only financial advisory services (FAS) industry.

Special Features:
The course provides individual participants an opportunity to learn how to develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive personal financial plans on an ongoing basis.

• Critical stages of the comprehensive personal financial planning process
• Behavioral and ethical considerations
• Regulatory requirements at the federal and state levels
• Individuals’ short-term and long-term goals
• Personal financial statements and reporting considerations
• Investment and insurance analysis
• Retirement planning
• Estate and gift taxation
• Annual tax planning
• Computer software applications
• Professional networking opportunities

Prerequisite:
Basic knowledge of accounting, finance and federal taxation

Format/Structure:
Lecture, group discussions, and problem solving (opportunities to excel)

Intended Audience:
The primary audience of the program is accounting and business educators who are considering and/or who currently offer academic courses and/or programs in comprehensive personal financial planning.
