Julia L. Higgs
Julia Lee Higgs is an Associate Professor in the School of Accounting at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) where she has worked since she earned her Ph.D. in 1998 at the University of South Carolina. Her master's and undergraduate degrees are from The University of Tennessee. Julia is a licensed CPA, and worked as a legislative auditor for the state of Tennessee and as the chief accountant for the Nashville, Tennessee school system before returning to school to pursue a Ph.D.
Julia currently teaches a seminar in Auditing in the Ph.D. program at FAU in addition to Auditing classes at the undergraduate level. She has regularly taught Financial Accounting. Julia has led a study tour on Regulatory Accounting and three study tours to South America on International Accounting. She currently serves as the Director of the Master's program and as the Director of Research and Development for the School of Accounting Office of Executive Programs.
Julia's publication record reflects an interest in scholarly, applied, and education research. Her primary areas of interest for accounting research include audit quality and professional workplace issues. Her work has appeared in Behavioral Research in Accounting, Issues in Accounting Education, Advances in Accounting, and the CPA Journal.
Julia has been an active member of the American Accounting Association at the section, region, and national levels. At the national level, she has served on the membership committee and has been, and still is, very active in the Auditing section, having served on the Communications, Nominating, and Membership committees. In the upcoming year, Julia will chair the Membership committee of the Auditing section.
Julia's enthusiasm for the AAA is best exemplified by her attendance at AAA meetings. Julia has attended every Annual Meeting for the past ten years, each Southeast Regional meeting for the past eight years, and the Midyear Auditing meetings for seven years. In addition, she has attended the midyear meetings of the ABO, APLG and FARS sections.
