Session 18
Electronic Portfolios
Presenter:
Joann Segovia, Minnesota State University, Moorhead
Description:
Electronic portfolios are readily accessible to Minnesota students via a free system, E-folio. In this session, I will provide screen shots of my e-folio and explain the assignment that I require of introductory accounting students and accounting system students who obtain their own URL and create three sections of an electronic e-folio. This assignment provides the students of the awareness of this free service in Minnesota that originated through an educational grant and work contracted with Avenet, the entity that maintains the sites.
This free, online media space uses the web to store, maintain and display information. An e-folio site may be developed to showcase an individual’s traditional resume information as well as school and work artifacts, personal experiences, and career and educational goals through documents, photos, audio, video, hyperlinks to other websites, and examples of projects and activities. I will demonstrate how easy the sites can be created.
For instructors at universities outside of Minnesota, electronic submissions to their career site could include a similar assignment to encourage students to begin documenting achievements earlier in their student career for scholarship, internship, or job applications.
