Session 1
Using Audience Response Systems ("Clickers") in Introductory Accounting Classes

Presenter:
Wendy Tietz, Kent State University

Description:
The focus of this session is to demonstrate the various applications for an audience response system (ARS or "clickers") in introductory accounting courses. Applications reviewed include daily activities, regular exams, discussion starting points, review activities, and other uses. Examples of materials actually used in the classroom will be given. Using clickers in classes with more than 100 students will be contrasted with using clickers in classes with fewer than 40 students. Practical advantages and disadvantages of using this technology will be included. An overview of the different ARS systems available will also be discussed. Results from a survey that measures student satisfaction with the ARS technology will also be available. This survey compares student demographics with the satisfaction levels and ease of use issues. In summary, participants will learn how they themselves could use an ARS system in their own classroom and the practical issues associated therewith.
