Session 13
Online Presentations: Achieving Old and New Learning Objectives
Presenter:
Stacy Kovar, Kansas State University
Description:
This session will present assignment materials and examples of student work for an assignment I use in my Accounting Information Systems course, but that could be adjusted for most any course. The assignment requires students to conduct research into a current topic in Accounting Information Systems, generally one of the topics identified through the AICPA top technologies list. Students must present the results of their research in the form of a website for viewing by their fellow classmates so that they might update their knowledge as well. Guidelines for good website design are provided and students are graded on quality of content and quality of design. All students are required to view the websites. Website authors provide a list of key points from their website, which are included in the final exam review sheet. Then, authors submit four multiple-choice questions based on the content of their site, three of which are included in the final exam. The assignment helps integrate current topics with reasonable instructor effort, familiarizes students with an important communication medium, encourages good writing skills, gives students exposure to learning asynchronously, and enforces lifelong learning.
