Session 17
FRP: A Fun, Rewarding, and Profitable Project

Presenters:
Ann Galligan Kelley, Providence College
Margaret Ruggieri, Providence College

Description:
Participants at this session will learn about a unique financial reporting project incorporating current events, technology, and real-world business with an investment recommendation deliverable. This project excites students, peaks their interest in business, and enables them to see practical applications. Drawing from the AICPA Core Competency framework's Industry/Sector competencies in Broad Business, it develops students' analytical skills and increases their awareness of business research tools. The project also fosters an understanding of the political and economic influences on an industry, focusing on current events that will have a strategic impact on a company. This session will indicate how this cooperative project is aligned with the AICPA's Core Competency Framework's Problem Solving and Decision Making, Interaction, Leadership and Communication personal competencies. Moreover, it will illustrate how the AICPA's functional competencies including Measurement, Reporting, Research and Technology are being developed. Examples of student work will be provided as well as comments from student evaluations. Insightful reflections on student learning from this project will be provided.
