Future Directions in Government and Nonprofit Research
Description/Objectives:
The objective of this workshop is to explore possible themes of future research in the government and nonprofit sectors. The broad areas to be covered are: (1) governmental auditing, (2) governmental accounting and reporting, (3) performance measurement and reporting, (4) the municipal bond market, and (5) accounting and auditing for nonprofit organizations. Professor Elder will speak on governmental auditing topics. Professor Deis will address issues pertaining to governmental accounting and reporting. Professor Smith’s presentation will cover performance measures and the reporting thereof. Professor Vijayakamur’s presentation will deal primarily with the municipal bond market. Professor Parsons will identify and discuss potential research topics in the nonprofit arena. Participants, in addition to obtaining their CPE credit will be able to get state-of-the-art information about existing research and ideas for future research relating to various aspects of the government and nonprofit sectors.
Format/Structure:
The format of the workshop will be predominantly individual presentations. Each presenter will be allotted approximately 45 minutes (to include both the presentation and time for questions for the audience). This format will allow time both for adequate coverage by each presenter and for one break.
Intended Audience:
The workshop is appropriate for academics having research interests in any of the following areas: governmental auditing, governmental accounting and financial reporting, governmental performance measures, the municipal bond market, and/or nonprofit accounting, reporting, and auditing.
