    Presenter: Debra Kerby, Truman State University

    Description: Writing improves with revision. See how a structured peer review process that focuses on competencies such as organization, depth of content, audience awareness, clarity, and mechanics can improve student thinking and writing.

  2. Instructional Strategies in Managerial Accounting: Understanding Equivalent Unit of Production [Canceled]

    Presenter: Cynthia Bolt, The Citadel

    Description: This demonstration illustrates how student involvement in the manufacture of sandwiches will visually illustrate the process costing system, manufacturing concepts, and calculations of equivalent units while students learn hands-on as volunteers in a team session.

  3. WebCT Tools That Make a Real Difference in Accounting Education

    Description: Learn how to use WebCT tools to reduce cheating on exams and quizzes. This session provides detailed guidance on data set formatting and test creation to allow instructors to construct different tests for each student, while controlling for content, difficulty, and variety of other factors.

  9. Expenditure and Revenue Cycle Simulation

    Description: Learn to develop an interactive role playing exercise to teach the expenditure and revenue cycles. Students act out various functions of both cycles, such as ordering, AP, shipping, and AR, providing hands-on knowledge and understanding of journals, ledgers, and process work flow.

Participants will see the case study "Getting Started in the Thoroughbred Horse Industry: A Review of Some Basic Accounting Principles" and learn some of the challenges of putting it on a CD.

  20. Improving Accounting Ethics Education through Comparative Historical Analysis

    Description: This session's topic is an assignment that challenges students to develop an historical context for recent accounting fraud cases. Students identify common themes among multiple fraud cases and gain insight into factors that create the conditions for fraud to occur.

  26. Developing Prospective Financial Statements

    Description: Students have testified that preparing prospective financial statements starting from assumptions has given them insight into the relationship of the statements and the usefulness of analytical ratios. Additionally, spreadsheet skills were improved. Students had a gratifying sense of accomplishment.

  30. Using an Active Learning Project to Enhance Student Learning in a Cost/Managerial Accounting Course

    Description: This session will showcase a project appropriate for a cost/managerial accounting course. The project requires students to create a product, construct a prototype, develop a unit cost, and a pro-forma Income Statement. Examples of student projects will be on display.

  31. Teaching Accounting Online: Lessons Learned from the Trenches

    Description: Many faculty are still hesitant to venture into the world of online accounting instruction. Concerns such as time allocation, lack of face-to-face contact, online cheating, and technological challenges will be addressed. Reasonable, easy to implement solutions will be offered.
