Abstract: Many of today's students have grown up with computers and the Internet and their learning styles reflect the use of an anytime-anywhere network with rapid-response and multimedia. What are the characteristics of these technologically savvy students? Do instructors understand their learning styles and their use of technology? What are the available technologies that instructors can incorporate in their courses to enhance these learning styles and characteristics? How do we adapt our course design to capitalize on the strengths of technology and these “new learners”? This paper provides some answers to these questions and provides a foundation to stimulate pedagogical research in this important area of adapting instructional strategies to address the learning preferences of the “new learners.” As experts in our discipline, we can readily identify course content and learning objectives. The greater challenge lies incorporating technology that reflects an effective pedagogical approach.
