Designing and Teaching a Capstone Course

Description/Objectives:
This workshop is designed to help faculty successfully design and teach a capstone course. Currently, there is considerable interest in the topic. A capstone course is a major assessment tool and several accounting programs have incorporated or try to incorporate a capstone course. A capstone course is an excellent vehicle for assessing (and further developing) professional competencies. A competency modeling approach is presented. The approach has been used to successfully build capstone courses in the accounting information systems, four-year accounting major, and the 150-hours accounting program at a major midwestern university. Each instructor has experience designing, developing, and teaching capstone courses.

Presenters:
Zafar Khan, Eastern Michigan University; Mohsen Sharifi, California State University, Fullerton.
