Developing and Assessing Oral Communication and Team Skills

Description/Objectives:
Participants will learn strategies for developing and enhancing oral communication and team skills without sacrificing large amounts of content-based knowledge. The presenters will share examples of assignment prompts, skill development suggestions and instructions, competency descriptors, and assessment rubrics. In addition, participants will discuss and use techniques and tools for assessing these skills. During the workshop, participants will view student presentations and use rubrics to assess the level of student performance. Samples of student-completed assessment of team skills will be presented, and the facilitators will lead a discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of student rather than instructor assessments of team-member performance. The workshop will use both information sharing and active participation approaches to achieve the workshop objectives.
