Ethics and Irregularities in Fiduciary Accountings
Description/Objectives:
Learning Objectives:
- Increase awareness of issues in preparing highly ethical and purposeful fiduciary accountings (audit, review, and compilation assignments).
- Identify strategies to detect accounting irregularities in preparing fiduciary accountings.
- Acquire 10 preventative tactics to curtail inadvertently preparing irregular fiduciary accountings.
After an introduction to Fiduciary Accounting Ethics through the lens of leading business ethic academicians in finance (Boatright 1999), accounting (Duska and Duska 2003), and information systems (Degeorge 2003), small groups will analyze and discuss ethical dilemmas in fiduciary accounting cases.
Specific issues to be addressed in the case analysis include:
- What are the red flags of fiduciary breach of duty?
- What procedures can help identify the red flags?
- What resources are available to follow-up on ethical issues and red flags in fiduciary accountings?
- What is the role of information technology in potentially "adjusting" irregularities and in generating divergent interim reports for beneficiaries versus fiduciaries?
Presenter:
