A Comparative Analysis of Student and Faculty Perception of Effective Assessment Strategies: Is There a Disconnect?
Joseph Riotto,
New Jersey City University
ABSTRACT. It is unknown as to the relationship between students’ desired assessment tools and the faculties’ current and future offering of assessment tools. The learner-centered paradigm challenges our basic assumptions about how people learn and how we measure what students know and are able to do with what they have learned. In an effort to better understand how New Jersey City University (NJCU) is assessing learning in the Business Department and to determine the assessment strategies that are most effective, this project involved business majors. The student survey provided information on current assessment strategies as well as students’ perceptions of their effectiveness to improve learning. In addition, the majority of NJCU Business Department faculty was surveyed to ascertain the faculties’ current and future offering of assessment tools.
