ABSTRACT. Incorporating recent advances in communication and technology, the AICPA and several state professional societies have developed accounting career information web sites to attract students into the accounting profession and provide accountants with career-related information. Whether these web sites benefit students and accountants, and ultimately the accounting profession in general, is an unanswered research question. Our study examines user perceptions of these web sites using an empirically validated instrument. Results suggest that users generally assign high ratings to these web sites. Users perceive some differences in web sites as four are consistently rated higher while four others consistently received lower ratings. Finally, user perceptions vary by gender and course level. Thus, we provide some evidence suggesting that at least one user group (i.e., college students) perceive that these web sites are beneficial.
