Statement of Auditing Standards (SAS) No.99 added brainstorming requirement which necessitates the audit team to discuss the potential for material misstatements due to fraud before and during the information-gathering process. This paper extends the literature in the area by incorporating brainstorming component into the fraud risk assessment. The study is looking to see if brainstorming component affects fraud risk assessment performed. In addition, the reliance on the decision aid is an important variable to consider when the audit team is required to brainstorm fraud audit risks and have a decision aid to assist in the task. The results of this study provide insight on how the brainstorming requirement impacts fraud risk assessment, decision aid use and decision aid reliance.
