ABSTRACT. Effective executive decision-making and accountability requires knowledge of not only the "big picture," but also detailed knowledge at the customer, salesperson, product, plant, department and account level. In this era of Data Warehousing applications it could easily lead to information overload. Transactions drill-down capability is essential for effective and efficient management. While the feature is available in many business areas, its use in accounting is recent and limited. This paper presents an AIS student project. Students created a web-based, Microsoft Access prototype of the Hospital Finance DataMart reports detail drill-down capability, demonstrating timely control to decision-makers. The client redesign team used the prototype as a design springboard and for communicating functional needs to its systems vendor. Project details are presented along with pedagogical issues, such as learning benefits to students
