ABSTRACT. The importance of communication instruction for the accounting profession has been recognized by the 1989 Big Eight white paper, Perspectives on Education in the Accounting Profession, the Accounting Education Change Commission, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ (AICPA) vision statement and the Advancement of Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB). Several studies of practitioners and accounting educators have also reinforced the need for communication instruction. Much of the discussion of how communication is taught has centered on the business communication course generally offered in the business curriculum.
