CPE Session 6: Saturday, August 4, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Teaching Corporate Governance and Business Risk

(Behavioral Ethics)

Description/Objectives:
Corporate scandals and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act thrust ethics and corporate governance to the forefront of business education. In this CPE Session you will learn how the 2005 Innovation in Accounting Education award-winning course successfully integrates ethics, governance, risk, and control-related topics in a seamless manner to provide students with a "holistic" view of corporate governance. This session will focus on the following Learning Objectives: (1) How to integrate ethics, governance, risk, and control-related topics to help students effectively learn the importance of good governance as mangers as well as auditors. (2) How to engage students through innovative teaching approaches such as real-life written and video case analyses co-taught by expert guest speakers, anonymous consensus building tools, role-playing exercises, and experiential field learning projects. (3) How to instill in students the value of ethical decision making as the foundation for good corporate governance and management of related risks through effective controls as a critical success factor in instituting effective governance strictures in global organizations. The seminar leader will share with the group relevant course materials.
