CPE Session 12: Saturday, August 4, 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM

Standards for Financial and Business reporting on the Internet
[Session Cancelled]

(Accounting)

Description/Objectives:
The subject of the session will be Financial Reporting on the Internet: The Need for Standards. The objectives will be to: (1) establish a base of understanding about the practices being followed in reporting on the Internet, (2) identify the issues raised by these practices, (3) identify the potential standards that are needed to bring some commonality to this fast changing area of financial reporting. The workshop will involve an examination of examples of current websites, identification of issues from a reporting perspective, and the identification of standards needed to rectify any issues.

The objectives will be met by presenting specific examples of Internet reporting by major companies, discussing the issues that these examples raise from a standards point of view and proposing a broad set of standards that could be needed.

The session will be an opportunity for participants to gain a grasp of the issues, and contribute an accounting perspective on how these issues should be resolved in any standards released by the accounting profession. Ideas for standards responsive to the issues identified will be presented to the group for consideration.

Presenter:
