CPE Session 30: Sunday, August 5, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
E-Learning Tools that Make a Real Difference in Accounting Education
(Specialized Knowledge & Applications)
Description/Objectives:
Many educators are reluctant to embrace classroom e-Learning tools like Blackboard/WebCT due to perceived time requirements to master these technologies. This session shows how these learning platforms can be effectively and efficiently implemented in an accounting curriculum. In addition to the often-cited benefits of these web-based tools (i.e., course administration, testing, etc.), this session introduces substantive and innovative techniques that allow an instructor to manage classroom concerns about academic integrity and content delivery. Specifically, participants will learn how to import exam databases using Respondus, conduct randomized testing, and design unique student specific problem sets, all of which virtually eliminate student cheating, while simultaneously freeing class time for creative problem-solving. This session also demonstrates how a completely electronic and paperless course promotes the creation of student portfolios that benefit faculty who are facing accreditation and assessment initiatives. Finally, all participants will be given a complete set of materials that give them access to the aforementioned content and techniques in the context of an introductory management course.
