Ethics in a Business Context: An Innovative Approach to Ethics Education

(Behavioral Ethics)

Description/Objectives:
The objective of the workshop is to provide innovative approaches to the acquisition of knowledge bases and skills for the recognition and resolution of ethical dilemmas in both professional careers and personal scenarios. This foundation can serve as a basis for the integration of ethics across business curricula and programs. It provides for ethical leadership through values clarification for individuals in organizational and educational environments in the 21st century. This workshop on ethics in a business context will entail: (1) an overview of the philosophical underpinnings from key schools of thought about ethics; (2) a dialogue about the use of process maps for the resolution of ethical dilemmas with recommendations for case study applications in accounting and ethics courses; (3) an examination of codes of conduct and standards of ethical behavior for corporate America under the provisions of the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) federal legislation; and (4) the building of a foundation for ethical leadership through values clarification at the individual and organizational culture levels via a balanced scorecard approach and Qigong practice.
