![]() PQ CPE Session: Saturday, August 4, All-DaySpecial CPE Session for Accounting Professionals Considering TeachingApplicationAs part of the American Accounting Association's outreach to accounting professionals, in light of the Ph.D. shortage, one of this year's Continuing Professional Education sessions (CPEs) at the Annual Meeting will offer accounting professionals with practice experience, but limited or no teaching experience in a university setting, the opportunity to learn more about moving into a full-time career in education. An all-day session on Saturday, August 4, will focus in the morning on Orientation for Aspiring Profession-Centered Faculty (Professionally Qualified), and in the afternoon on Teaching Tips from Master Teachers. The Orientation for Aspiring Profession-Centered Faculty (Professionally Qualified) session will provide an overview of academics, academic life, teaching responsibilities, the role of citizenship, business research and academic research, money and the academy, tenure and the tenure process, accreditation, PQ (Professionally Qualified) vs. AQ (Academically Qualified) faculty positions, maintaining PQ status, and a brief look at the future trends in education. During a panel discussion, current profession centered faculty will share their career paths and insights about becoming a successful PQ faculty member. Presenters: Kevin Stocks, Director and W. Steve Albrecht Professor of the School of Accountancy at Brigham Young University and a panel of current PQ faculty members. The Teaching Tips from Master Teachers session will provide how-to guidance from three faculty who are known for their teaching effectiveness. They will focus on how to engage students in large classes; how to structure case-based assignments and manage a class using the case method; and how to leverage learning modalities and learning styles using technology tools (course management systems, podcasts, and accounting software). Presenters: Earl K. Stice, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Professor of Accounting at Brigham Young University; G. Peter Wilson, Joseph L. Sweeney Chair of Accounting at Boston College, and Susan Crosson, Professor at Santa Fe Community College. The registration fee of $250 will also include full membership in the AAA for the 2007-2008 member year with electronic access to one journal and an early Saturday evening reception. Participants will also have the option of registering for Sunday CPE sessions (usually available only to those attending the Annual Meeting) at a discounted rate of $150, and complimentary registration to the Annual Meeting if they attend both the Saturday and Sunday sessions. We thank the APLG, AICPA, Ph.D. Project, and IMA for helping to publicize this event. Applications will be accepted until July 9, 2007.
