CTLA Brochure | Registration Information | CTLA Program Outline
Plan to attend the American Accounting Association's 1st Annual Conference on Teaching and Learning in Accounting (CTLA) during the AAA Annual Meeting in Anaheim, California, August 2-3, 2008. This new Conference on Teaching and Learning features a unique conference-within-a-conference structure:
Saturday, August 2
- Opening luncheon
- Afternoon sessions
- CTLA reception
Sunday, August 3
- Combination of two half-day CPE sessions
- Opportunity to join the Early Bird Reception
Monday - Wednesday, August 4 – 6
- Use your Insiders’ Guide to education, teaching, and practice sessions throughout the Annual Meeting.*
Designed for faculty looking for opportunities to refine their teaching talents and perfect their craft in teaching accounting, the conference surrounds the AAA Annual Meeting to offer teaching oriented CPE and an Insiders’ Guide – a kind of “road map” – to sessions on teaching and curriculum related topics throughout the Annual Meeting program. A concluding “What’s Next?” session at the end of the Annual Meeting provides a chance for reflection on learning across the meeting, and making recommendations for future Conferences on Teaching and Learning in Accounting.
This conference will be part hands-on teaching clinic, part mentoring by master teachers, and part staying current on emerging topics in accounting!
Register early — space is limited!
*If you cannot stay through Wednesday, a Saturday/Sunday CTLA-only registration option is available. Click here for registration information.
Some of the goals of the new conference include:
- supporting and involving the community of accounting educators interested in sharing teaching ideas and resources;
- creating networking opportunities for those with shared interests;
- exploring ideas, issues, and solutions for supporting teachers and students of accounting.
Saturday Program Highlights — August 2
The new Teaching and Learning Conference begins with an opening luncheon on Saturday followed by a full afternoon program focused on the craft of teaching and effective best practices. The Saturday program also includes an Insiders' Guide to the Annual Meeting with directions for finding the many sessions and activities held throughout the AAA Annual Meeting program that address issues of education and practice relevant for teaching including, for example:
- 10 concurrent timeframe sessions organized specifically around education-related topics (assessment, IFRS in the classroom, ethics, technology in the classroom, etc.);
- more than 25 panel sessions on timely issues for practice and education;
- Effective Learning Strategy Forum poster sessions;
- sessions sponsored by the Teaching and Curriculum Section;
- sessions including both education resources and education research findings.
Sunday Program Highlights — August 3
On Sunday, Teaching and Learning Conference attendees will be able to choose two half-day CPE sessions from the special teaching conference CPEs (“Teaching with Technology” or “Preparing for Class”) or choose one teaching conference CPE and one regular AAA CPE course (http://aaahq.org/AM2008/cpeinfo.htm). As the Teaching and Learning Conference ends on Sunday, registrants will transition into the regular
Annual Meeting program with their road map to the teaching-related activities. A reception Saturday evening and a concluding session on Wednesday after lunch will give everyone a chance to network and
compare notes. We do hope you and your colleagues will plan to attend this 1st Annual Conference on Teaching and Learning in Accounting. Space is limited so please register early. For questions about the conference, go to http://aaahq.org/AM2008/menu.htm or contact Deirdre Harris at deirdre@aaahq.org.
