Teaching Accounting Online: Challenges and Opportunities

(Accounting - Basic)

Description/Objectives:
Have you ever thought about teaching an accounting course online? Online education in accounting continues to expand in volume and importance. Some colleges and universities (e.g. University of Phoenix) are completely online, but more and more traditional "bricks and mortar" (e.g. Boston University, where the presenter has taught three graduate level accounting courses online over the last three years) are also offering online courses.

How is teaching accounting online different from classroom teaching? This workshop will outline some of the various types of online instruction, and will also illustrate the presenter's personal experience with online education.

Online education can be a very exciting and satisfying experience. Online education can also be a very frustrating and challenging experience. This workshop will also outline some ways to best prepare for teaching online, and will include some "warning signs" to avoid that might make online teaching frustrating.

Presenter:
Michael Ruff, Clark University
