Lean Accounting

Description/Objectives:
Lean transcended from manufacturing to all aspects of organizational management including back office and accounting. Lean accounting helps achieve dramatic reduction in number of transactions, cost, and time.

This workshop is designed for all accounting faculty interested in learning and teaching lean accounting as a part of existing cost/managerial accounting courses or designing a stand alone course in lean accounting. Topics covered include: (1) basic lean tenets, (2) problems with traditional accounting systems, (3) sources and causes of waste, (4) lean tools and techniques, (5) eliminating waste and streamlining accounting systems, (6) performance measurements systems for lean organizations, and (7) behavioral issues in transformation from traditional to lean accounting. This will be an interactive workshop with active participation, hands-on mini-cases, and hints on how to incorporate lean into accounting curriculum.

This presenter has extensive knowledge of lean and has been offering seminars in lean accounting for accounting professionals. The presenter also designed and taught a three credit senior level course in lean accounting and published many journal articles in cutting edge cost management.

Prerequisites:
Basic knowledge of cost/management accounting.
