CPE Session 23: Sunday, August 3, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Understanding the Strategic Impacts of Interactive Data and XBRL:Non-Technical Information for all Accounting Teachers and Researchers
(Specialized Knowledge & Applications — Overview)
Description/Objectives:
Session is designed for all faculty interested in learning how interactive data will impact business reporting. No background knowledge is required. Based on the recent decisions from the Pozen Committee and actions from the SEC, it is very likely that companies will be required to file their financial statements using XBRL in the very near future. What does this mean for companies as they prepare for this change and what does it mean for those providing assurance services? What does this mean for the financial markets and for those currently involved in providing information based on the current system? Learn about these and other important strategic issues from a panel of experienced business professionals. Faculty attending this session will be able to take part in a discussion of the impacts of this move on preparers, users, assurance providers, data intermediaries, regulatory bodies and others. The panelists will provide information on the SEC Voluntary Filing Project, new initiatives and mandates, and their assessment of potential future changes. Participants will learn how to cover these topics in one to two class periods and will also learn about resources available for teaching and research.
