CPE Session 34: Sunday, August 3, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

GNP Research and Teaching Forum

(Accounting Governmental – Overview)

Description/Objectives:
The objective of this CPE session is to examine current GNP topics, potential publication outlets and issues encountered in pursuing academic research in the government and nonprofit area. Part 1 will include a panel of editors and editorial board members from journals which consider governmental or not-for-profit accounting and auditing manuscripts for publication. Topics of discussion might include: obvious and not-so-obvious tips which can help authors improve their changes of getting their manuscript published; the publishing process from "behind the scenes;" choosing the appropriate journal to submit an article; tips for responding to the review; and suggestions for reviewers. Part 2 will introduce cost measurement, management and control. We’ll be joined by Dale Geiger, who has served on the U.S. Army’s Managerial Cost Systems Advisory Board, the Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board Task Force on managerial cost accounting standards, the Joint Financial Management Improvement Program’s advisory board for cost accounting systems, and the AAA Committee on Federal Reporting. Part 3 will cover current issues in the NFP area and help us integrate these issues into our classrooms and research.
