Description: China has become an increasingly more important member of the global economy. Furthermore, there are some unique characteristics in Chinese accounting practices and taxation systems. However, relatively little is known about the accounting and taxation in China among both accounting academia and practitioners in Western countries. This workshop intends to provide participants with a general understanding of the history of accounting development, current state of accounting and auditing practices, and taxation systems in China. The workshop also discusses some special tax treatments for foreign investments in China. This workshop should be of interest to accounting faculty who wish to internationalize their curriculum, to accounting students with a career interest in the Asia-Pacific, and to accounting practitioners who serve clients with business interest in China. It should also be useful to business executives and entrepreneurs who are interested in doing business in China.

Format/Structure: In this half day workshop, the presenters will present the following topics about accounting and taxation in China:
- Accounting development
- Current accounting and auditing practices
- Taxation in China in general
- China’s new taxation system
- Special tax treatments for foreign investment in China
Specific examples will be used during the presentation. The 45-page handout should also serve as a good source of reference for the workshop participants.
