Fair Value Accounting – Where Do We Stand Today

Description: This program will cover the fair value accounting rules in ASC 820. Attention will be paid to how they interact with financial instruments (ASC 825), Investments (ASC 320), and Combinations (ASC 805). In addition disclosure requirements along with examples will be illustrated and discussed.

The discussion will include the fair value hierarchy of levels 1, 2 and 3, the fair value option, transfers between levels, recurring and nonrecurring valuations, goodwill, and impairments.

Also covered will be the components of fair value including exit price, entry price, active markets, observable inputs, market participants, and valuation techniques. Newly issued ASUs, exposure drafts, and the status of convergence will also be part of the program.
