Welcome to the ATA Home Page
The American Taxation Association (ATA) was founded in 1974 and joined the American Accounting Association (AAA) in 1978 as the Tax Section of the AAA. Memberships and student memberships are open to persons with an interest in tax education and research. Honorary memberships are also available to long-term members that have retired. In addition to members' dues the ATA is supported by many generous sponsors.
Please see the ATA objectives to learn more about our goals. Under the guidance of President Sandy Callaghan, the ATA's committees provide a wide variety of services to the ATA membership. Please see the Committees page for ways to get involved.
News & Announcements
Jack Kramer passed away the evening of April 17, surrounded by his wife Sandy Kramer and family. Jack was a friend and mentor to many in the ATA and the accounting profession more generally. He was Emeritus Professor and Director at the Fisher School of Accounting at the University of Florida and his contributions to the world of tax academia are legendary. He leaves behind an important legacy and his contributions continue through the work of the many former students and colleagues he influenced. Any tax professor and any student of taxation owes a debt of gratitude to Jack Kramer. The family is planning a memorial service and more details will be provided at a later time.
It's time to Volunteer for an ATA Committee!
The vast majority of the work of the ATA is done by its members through its various committees. Members are invited to volunteer now to serve on a committee for the 2013-2014 academic year. First-time volunteers are especially encouraged. To indicate your interest, complete the on-line volunteer form by clicking here.
A full list of committees is available on the form. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Andy Cuccia at Cuccia@ou.edu. Please volunteer by April 30.
Note that one of the goals of the Tax Policy Research Oversight Board is to identifying and facilitate two to three policy initiatives per year that result in a policy document. Members of the Tax Policy Working Committee will participate in these projects. When indicating your interest in the Working Committee, please also identify the policy area(s) in which you might be interested in working.
Thank you in advance for your willingness to volunteer for the ATA.

At their February 2010 meeting, the Trustees of the ATA approved the creation of an ATA Memorial Fund for the benefit of Doctoral Education. With the recent loss of long-time members Jack Kramer, Christine Bauman and Marty Escoffier, we are reminded that the ATA created this fund to provide a vehicle for ATA members to contribute in memory of deceased ATA members and friends. Each August, the trustees allocate a portion of the fund balance to benefit doctoral student education. Possible uses include travel costs, registration fees, or consortium materials for doctoral students. Information on making a contribution to the ATA Memorial Fund.
Tax Analysts' offer to ATA members - annual application (this offer is still valid as of May 2012)
The AAA has requested that the ATA website not provide conference-related files for more than 60 days after the close of the event. Conference programs are still available; if there is a paper or presentation you would like a copy of then please contact the authors.
