Gender Issues and Worklife
Balance Newsletter Fall 2005 Edition
Letter
from the Section President: I hated
missing the AAA meeting in August, but I recently took a new
position and agreed to teach a class in the 2nd half of the summer.
Last spring, I had the pleasure of attending the AAA Council Meeting in
Any chance
that we get to participate in our profession and learn more
about it, I believe that we should embrace. I have found it very
informative and interesting learning about the inner-workings of the
AAA, and at the Council Meeting I also learned about other current
events and challenges facing our profession and the accounting
discipline in general. I have been able to learn so much because
of membership and involvement in our section of the AAA. That being
said, I highly recommend getting involved! Kimberly Charron is our National Meeting
Coordinator. Please see her note in this newsletter concerning
submission of Gender and/or Worklife
Balance research to the annual AAA meeting. Please note also that
submission deadline for papers for the meeting is January 10,
2006. Additional information about submission can be found at http://aaahq.org/AM2006/call2006.htm.
On a final
note for this message, I thank Ellen Cook and Murphy Smith
for all their help and counsel and for the opportunities that have been
presented to me through involvement in our section. The
participation and involvement of each of our members serves to
strengthen both our section and our profession. ~ Liz President, Gender Issues & Worklife Balance Section University of South Florida at St. Petersburg Email: oyealiz@yahoo.com Call

Please send
me items of interest for next newsletter, including: -
Recent books or journal articles related to GIWB - whether you have
published them or you have seen other peoples you think others should
know about. Conferences and calls for papers related to GIWB - make
sure all regional or local events you may be involved with get good
billing this way. -
This could include non-AAA events too (if directly relevant to section
members' interests) - Have you been to an interesting meeting recently?
Why not write a few paragraphs for us describing who presented what so
we can all benefit in some way from events we couldn't attend? -
Personal accomplishments e.g. promotions or awards (don't be shy now!)
Have you changed jobs recently? Let people know where you are now via
the newsletter perhaps! -
New research projects started or updates on current ones you may be
working on. PhD students - tell us what you are doing and what you are
finding out - there may be people out there who can help you in all
kinds of ways you hadn't thought about - ask! -
Other items related to GIWB e.g. comments or questions you'd like
answers to or help with. Maybe someone out there has an answer that can
help you with an issue you are facing? Ask! Best
