XBRL:  An Introductory Case

ABSTRACT:

This project is designed to facilitate your understanding of eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL). The case will provide you with a basic understanding, not make you a proficient programmer. By being conversant in the terminology of XBRL you will enhance your ability to communicate with information technology professionals. The ability to communicate with IT professionals is an important skill as you will likely work together during your professional career to integrate your employer’s business information supply chain. After obtaining a basic understanding of XBRL, by reading the background material, you will modify and style XML tagged data. In addition, you will download a promulgated taxonomy, create an industry extension to the promulgated taxonomy and create an instance document. You should work independently through the assignments, unless otherwise instructed, to gain an understanding of the benefits and a basic knowledge of the technical aspects of XBRL.
