HUB of Analytics Education: Addressing Accounting Education Challenges with OER

Charlie is an Executive Professor in Accounting and Co-Founder of the HUB of Analytics Education at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. Prior to joining the academic ranks, Charlie was a Senior Manager with KPMG and a Controller at First Union Capital Markets. In 2013, he began developing educational materials to infuse big data analytics into the business curriculum. These efforts led to the development of the HUB of Analytics Education at Northeastern University, a provider of Open Educational Resources for faculty.

 


Ann C. Dzuranin, Dean’s Distinguished Professor of Analytics in Accounting at Northern Illinois University

Data and Analytics: Curriculum Innovation to Meet Employer Needs

Dr. Ann C. Dzuranin is the Dean’s Distinguished Professor of Analytics in Accounting at Northern Illinois University.  She earned her B.S. from Fairleigh Dickinson University, her MBA from New York University, and her Ph.D. from the University of South Florida. Ann is a CPA (NJ) and has 15 years of experience in both public and corporate accounting. 
Dr. Dzuranin is interested in behavioral research in managerial decision-making, incentive compensation, and accounting information systems.  Specifically, she is interested management accounting decision making and the ways in which accounting information systems interact with those decisions. Her research has been published in Issues in Accounting Education, Journal of Information Systems, Journal of Business Ethics, Management Accounting Quarterly, and Journal of Corporate Accounting and Finance.   
Dr. Dzuranin’s work in data analytics curriculum development has resulted in invitations to present on the topic of Data Analytics and Accounting at both academic and professional conferences.  Her presentations have reached over 1,500 people in the last 15 months with more than 40 universities requesting additional information regarding NIU’s approach to incorporating data analytics into the curriculum.  

 

 


 

Eric E. Cohen, Audit Data Standards, Blockchain, Continuous Audit, XBRL, Cohen Computer Consulting

Shifting Foundations in an Era of Change: Technology and Accounting Education

Eric Cohen is an accounting technologist with a long history of bridging the accounting profession with technology. He has written hundreds of articles in the professional, business and academic press and contributed to numerous books, including the first book about the Internet for the accounting profession. He is also one of the original founders of XBRL. He sits on or contributes to virtually every effort on audit data standardization as the “Father” of XBRL GL and accounting and audit domain coordinator for the United Nations. He is also a national Expert to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) committee developing standards for Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies and Convenor of their study group on Interoperability. He is a frequent speaker on accounting technology topics and works closely with the AICPA, CPA Canada, XBRL Canada and other professional bodies on relevant working groups and educational efforts. His consulting firm, Cohen Computer Consulting, has Blockchain developers, CPA firms and educators as clients. He is a CPA and a member of the AICPA and the New York State Society of CPAs.
