Dear Public Interest Section Members:

Now that our revised PIS Bylaws have been accepted by an overwhelming majority of those members voting, 40 for acceptance and 1 against acceptance, we need to have elections. The first step in the process is to nominate and elect members to the two committees below. The first is the nomination committee for elected officers and the second is the nomination committee for choosing the editor of the Accounting and Public Interest Journal. Paul Williams is ready to step down as editor, so this will be a process to find a new editor for our section journal. We certainly appreciate what Paul has done as editor and want to find as qualified a person to fill his shoes.

Before you nominate yourself or other PIS members for these very important committees, please make sure your nominee is willing to commit the time to do a good job. Both calls for nominations will close August 15. We will then hold elections for committee members that must be completed by October 2009 (per bylaws).

Remember to please submit your nominations for both Nominating Committees by August 15!

1. Call -- Nominating Committee for Elected Officers
: According to our Section’s bylaws, the elected officers are placing this call for PIS members to provide nominations of people to serve on the PIS Nominating Committee. Please consider nominating yourself or another member of the Public Interest Section. The Nominating Committee’s duties include selecting and presenting a slate of candidates from the membership for open offices of elected officers. An election for the nomination committee will be held prior to October 2009. Additional details on the by-laws responsibilities of the nominating committee are below.

Nominations for the Nominating Committee should be submitted to Alan Mayper by August 15 at Email: alan.mayper@unt.edu.

BY-LAWS: VII. ELECTION OF OFFICERS
a. Election of the Elected Officers Nominating Committee

The elected officers group will put forth an e-mail call to the membership for nominees to serve on the Nominating Committee. By October the chair will then conduct a section-wide election (under the auspices of the AAA Administrative Office) via web ballot by October of each year. The five nominees receiving the most votes will be deemed the Nominating Committee. No more than one elected officer is eligible to serve on the Nominating Committee. The immediate past-Chair shall serve as the nonvoting chair of the Nominating Committee in order to provide information about the section and to organize the Committee to complete the nominating process in a timely manner.

2. Call – Editor Nominating Committee:
We are placing this call for nominees to serve on the Editor Nominating Committee. Once the chair, Pamela Roush, has contacted each nominee to ensure each nominee is willing to serve, an election will follow. The elected committee of three members will then review the candidates for editor of the API JOURNAL and submit only three editor candidates to the Officer Group, who will then select one candidate as the editor. Additional details on the by-laws responsibilities of the Editor Nominating Committee are below.

Nominations for the Nominating Committee should be submitted to Pamela Roush by August 15 at Email: proush3@cfl.rr.com.

BY-LAWS: VIII. STANDING COMMITTEES

The standing committees are the Editor Nominating Committee and the Accounting Exemplar Committee. The Chair has the authority to appoint ad hoc committees.

a. The Editor Nominating Committee shall be elected at the end of the current editor's first year of service. The election of the Committee may occur during the Public Interest Section business meeting or by an e-mail vote under the auspices of the AAAs administrative offices. The Chair of the Section will conduct the election by issuing a call for committee nominations from Public Interest Section members allowing at least two weeks. The chair will contact each nominee to ensure each is willing to serve if elected. The willing nominees will then be submitted for an election. The three nominees receiving the most votes will be deemed the Editor Nominating Committee.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Best regards,

Pamela Roush, Chair of the Public Interest Section
