150-hour Program Issues

Charge: Report on the status of the 150-hour requirement in all states. Review AICPA requirements pertaining to the 150-hour requirement. Suggest actions the T&C Section should consider to address issues of concern regarding the 150-hour requirement.

Active Learning
(Chair, D.V. Rama, University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth, drama@meganet.net)
Charge: Develop materials for faculty use in active learning. Focus this year on service learning. Explore and propose focus areas for subsequent years.

Electronic Technology and Media
(Chair, Cherie J. O'Neil, Colorado State University, coneil@lamar.colostate.edu)
Charge: Manage the Section's Home Page on the Internet, interface with the AAA's Webmaster, and update and make available on the T&C Home Page materials developed by the Section. Identify and make recommendations regarding future issues or issues of concern related to the use of electronic technology that should be considered by the T&C Section.

Evaluating Teaching Effectiveness
(Chair, Carl Warren, University of Georgia, cwarren@cba.uga.edu)
Charge: Solicit input on actions taken that have improved teaching effectiveness and the process of evaluating this improvement. Identify and analyze innovative evaluation processes. Suggest actions the T&C Section should consider to improve the quality and variety of processes used in the evaluation of teaching effectiveness.

The First Course in Accounting

Charge: Solicit input from Section members and other relevant sources to identify innovative approaches in the structure and delivery of the first accounting course. Disseminate this information to Section members. Suggest actions the T&C Section should consider to address issues of concern regarding the first course in accounting education.

Membership

Charge: Increase membership in the Section. Identify actions to be taken to retain members and to attract new members.

New Faculty Handbook
(Chair, Lynn Griffin, North Carolina A&T, griffinl@aurora.ncat.edu)
Charge: Create a faculty handbook to be used by new accounting faculty. Gather suggestions and organize resources in a handbook to be distributed to new faculty. This handbook should focus on practical suggestions to help new faculty be successful in the teaching and citizenship areas. General guidelines on successful research approaches should be expected. This is meant to be a very practical document that will be useful in all different institutional settings. Work towards a Fall 1999 publication and distribution.

Nominating

Charge: Identify and nominate individuals for positions on the executive committee for 1999-00.

Program

Charge: Arrange for reviews of papers and ideas for panels and workshops submitted for the annual and regional AAA meetings. Organize program sessions for the annual and regional AAA meetings. Identify questions regarding program issues that should be considered by the T&C Section.

Research In Accounting Education

Charge: Build upon the efforts of past committee work to improve the quality and acceptability of accounting education research. Suggest actions the T&C Section should consider to improve the quality and quantity of accounting education research. Suggest directions for future education research.

Syllabus Exchange and Teaching Ideas
(Chair, Chuck Malone, North Carolina A&T State University, malonec@ncat.edu)
Charge: The AAA is organizing a syllabus exchange and a database of teaching ideas. Work with the AAA Director of Education to organize and provide assistance in the development and operation of the syllabus exchange and teaching database. Provide needed information and encouragement to T&C Section members to become actively involved in this syllabus exchange. Suggest actions the T&C Section should consider in supporting these activities.

Two-Year College Issues
(Chair, Susan Crosson, Santa Fe Community College, susan.crosson@santafe.cc.fl.us)
Charge: Identify developments in two-year programs related to teaching and curriculum issues. Keep abreast of two-year program issues discussed in professional and academic groups. Identify issues of concern to Section members from two-year programs and suggest actions the T&C Section should consider to address these issues.
