REPORT OF THE PROGRAM CHAIR
ANNUAL MEETING, 2003
TIM FOGARTY
The T&C Section received 90 research papers and 8 panel or special
presentation proposals for the 2003 Annual Meeting in Hawaii. This
larger-than-average level of interest probably reflected the desire on the part
of the membership to go to this year's meeting location. Accordingly, my job
was to facilitate the process. To do this, I decided that all sessions
allocated to the Section would be used for research papers. This maximizes the
number of our members that can be on the program. AAA allocated the Section 10
Concurrent Sessions, and 7 Forum slots. Therefore, 37 papers were accepted for
inclusion. The membership will be happy with the resulting sessions, with both
familiar and cutting-edge research.
It may go without saying (but should not be neglected) that this was
possible only through the tireless efforts of a large number of reviewers. The
depth of talent in this Section allowed this participation opportunity to be
shared so that nobody had to review more than a single paper. All people that
volunteered for moderator or discussant slots were accommodated.
The special sessions were reviewed by the Program Chair for inclusion on the
program outside of the T&C Section allotment. One panel was chosen for
these purposes. Furthermore, the subject matter of another proposal (the AAA's
continuation as a publisher of education research) has been commandeered by
others.
In short, T&C will be well represented in Hawaii. Come join the fun!
