Report of the Southeast Region
Greg Jenkins, North Carolina State University

This year's AAA Southeast Region Meeting was hosted by Northern Kentucky University in Covington, Kentucky. As in the past, the Teaching and Curriculum Section was well represented and accounted for a significant number of the papers presented during the meeting. While there were fewer submissions than in the prior year, the overall quality of the submitted papers remained high. For the second year, recognition was given to the "best paper" in the teaching and curriculum section. This year's award was presented to Professor Leslie Weisenfeld of Winston-Salem State University for her paper entitled "Enhancing Your Traditional Classroom Delivery with Technology: An Example from Intermediate Accounting Using Blackboard and Network Files." Professor Weisenfeld is to be congratulated for her accomplishment. Finally, a word of thanks should be extended to all of those individuals who served as paper reviewers for this year's meeting. Their cooperation and timeliness in responding to a tight deadline was greatly appreciated.

Report of the Western Region
Penne Ainsworth, University of Wyoming

1. Approximate attendance 125 (89 preregistered).

2. There were 52 concurrent papers scheduled for presentation. This does not include special sessions.

3. There were 9 T & C papers accepted for presentation. Eight were scheduled for T & C sessions and 1 was presented in an IMA session. We did have one no-show however so we really only had 8 T & C papers. The T & C represented 17.3 percent of the total accepted.

4. There were 13 papers submitted so our acceptance rate for this year was VERY high--69 percent.

5. This best paper went to: "The Second Wave in Adopting the User Perspective: Integrating the Residual Income Model in the Introductory Financial Accounting Course" by Richard Gore, Paul Bahnson, and Denise English all at Boise State University.

6. The sessions I attended were full. In fact, rooms were very crowded.

On a side note, many of the T & C sessions had four papers. This simply does not give the authors enough time and it seemed very unfair.

Midwest Region - Milwaukee April 11-13, 2002
Barbara J. Eide, University of Wisconsin - La Crosse

One hundred and sixty-one were pre-registered for the meeting. In attendance, there were 201 including spouses/guests and exhibitors.

In all there were 66 presentations of which 29 were T&C. This does not include five Research strategies sessions nor three of the four sessions by the American Tax Association.

The overall acceptance rate for the papers was 80%. As a side, I noticed that some of the papers originally identified as T&C (when sent to me for review) were presented in other sessions.

The T&C sessions were well attended and I heard many favorable comments.

The ice cream social, following the Friday night main reception, was a big success. The attendance was not large, but those who attended enjoyed themselves. I am glad that we had such an opportunity for our T&C members.

The best T&C paper award went to Tom D. Lewis of Creighton University. The title of his paper was "Teaching Critical Thinking and Other Professional Skills with the Use of a Non-Research Accounting and Business Case."

Report of the Ohio Region
Patricia Essex, Bowling Green State University

Eight T&C papers were accepted by the Ohio Region for its annual meeting last May. Attendacnce was good at all the Accounting Education sessions; several had packed rooms.

The best T&C paper submitted to the Ohio Region for the 2002 meeting was: "Accounting Students and Team Effectiveness: What has emotional intelligence got to do with it?" co-authored by Connie Esmond-Kieger, Christine A. Yost, Mary L. Tucker, David Kirch, & Ken Cutright all at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. This paper presentation spawned a great deal of discussion - such that the session lasted much longer than scheduled. T&C members should watch for the paper to appear in other venues as it is thought-provoking.

Report of the Mid-Atlantic Region

1. Approximate attendance 125.

2. There were 19 T & C papers out of 62 total papers accepted for presentation.

3. Acceptance rate for this year was 68 percent.

4. This best paper went to: David Stout (Villanova University): "An Innovative, Cross-Disciplinary Graduate-Level Course in Strategic Cost Management, Planning and Control."

Report of the Northest Region

1. Approximate attendance 200.

2. There were 12 T & C papers out of 60 total papers accepted for presentation.

3. Acceptance rate for this year was 80 percent.

4. This best paper went to: John M. Coulter and Thomas J. Vogel (both from Western New England College) "Assessing the Going Concern Risk of E-Commerce Companies: The Case of Pets.com, Inc."

Report of Southwest Region

Best paper went to John F. Cowling, (Kentucky State University). "Accounting Doctorates: Supply and Salary Trends."
